The inflammation of the lining of the nose is known as
rhinitis. Rhinitis is supposed to be caused due to allergic
reactions or other factors like cigarette smoke,
fluctuations in the temperature, exercise and stress. The
allergy is a reaction by the body which occurs in some
individuals who are sensitive to chemical substances from
various factors present in the environment. Allergic
rhinitis is specifically distinguished by the itchy eye,
itchy or runny nose, sneezing and nasal congestion.
Various other alergic symptoms such as itchy and irritating
throat, ears feeling blocked up, red & watery eyes, cough,
fatigue, loss of concentration, lack of energy due to
sleeplessness, headaches and facial tenderness. Basically
the eyes, nose and throat are affected due to the rhinitis
allergic reactions as airborne irritants – allergens
activate the discharge of histamine. Histamine develops
inflammation and produced fluid in the fragile linings of
nasal passage, sinuses and eyelids.
There are basically two types of alergic rhinittis, seasonal
that occurs especially during the pollen season and the
perennial which occurs through out the year.
Symptoms: the most common symptoms of allergic rhinitis
include: coughing; headache; itching of nose, mouth, eyes,
throat, skin or any body areas; runny nose - Rhinitis;
weakened smelling sense, frequent sneezing in sequences,
stuffy nose, increased tearing, sore throat and wheezing.
Allergic rhinitis is not serious disorder but may of course
develop great discomfort or inconvenience to many people.
Even symptoms like asthma may be experienced by some people
having alergic rhinitis reactions.
Allergic rhinitis reactions could easily be treated by
medications that help to prevent the allergic response in
the nose. Medications like anti-histamines block the
histamine actions in the body responding the allergens to
cause inflammation. Other medications like anti-inflammatory
agents such as steroids are also often used for treating the
alergic rhinitis reactions.
