There are numerous types of allergies, the list is yet
extending consistently with the addition of newer alergic
reactions being experienced and reported from remote corners
of the world. Allergic shiner or dark circles are one of the
common most types of the allergic reactions. Allergic
shiners are supposed to be caused by any allergy that
specifically affects the sinuses. The alergic shiner is
triggered by congestions from any cause that in turn
develops pressure on the veins that return under the eyes.
May be even cold can cause allergic shiner too.
When the sinuses get blocked, the veins surrounding the
sinuses and nose get congested. Even the veins surrounding
the eyes also get congested and enlarged too since they
usually drain into the veins around the nose and sinuses
only. The tiny veins surrounding the eyes are much closer to
the skin area so when these veins gets puffed up or swollen
up, their blushing – red - color reflects through the skin
around the eyes.
Often when the veins surrounding the eyes are backed up as
the fluid is not able to flow to sinus veins; it oozes into
the skin tissues around resulting in swelling. However, some
other conditions may also develop swelling of the eyes. The
swelling when caused due to the allergy may exhibit symptoms
like runny nose and watery eyes. Eyes may also swell up due
to rubbing with fingers having come into contact with some
allergen. The inhalant allergies may cause watery, itchy or
swollen eyes.
